“The desert is a capricious lady, and sometimes she drives men crazy.”
Paulo Coelho

About the Painting

Two Fingers reflects the paradox of the desert: a landscape that is at once severe and deeply compassionate. It is a place where beauty is never given freely, but is revealed to those willing to accept its silence, its mystery, and its demands.

I have never believed that I paint landscapes. I believe I paint portraits of daimons that manifest themselves as cacti—ancient guardians whose presence protects the timeless beauty of the desert. Their forms are more than botanical subjects; they are enduring spirits that stand watch over a world shaped by wind, light, and time.

The paired cactus forms in Two Fingers rise together like silent sentinels, suggesting companionship, resilience, and quiet strength. Their blossoms remind us that even in the harshest environments, life continually renews itself with grace and generosity. The expansive sky and luminous distance invite contemplation, encouraging us to see the desert not as empty space, but as a place filled with presence and meaning.

For me, Two Fingers speaks of endurance, friendship, and the profound wisdom found in the natural world. It is a reminder that what appears solitary is often deeply connected, and that the greatest beauty is discovered through patience and careful observation.
